Lydia – budding graphic designer. Join me as I learn essential skills necessary in the world of graphic and web design, and share my work from a variety of classes.

I am a mid-20’s young professional living and working in Durham, NC. A UNC grad, I now work for a company that is darker blue — I know, I know, I betrayed that gorgeous Carolina blue. I have a degree in Marine Science, work in psychology, and am enrolled in a Graphic Design program at Wake Tech. Why the varied experiences? Read on!

Take a look at projects, sketches, and websites created for my design classes in typography, design basics, and web design. As well as paintings, drawings, and sketches created over the years through my love of art.

Because my professor said so? Kidding of course.

My love of art started at a very young age and my sister and I took art lessons since we were six until we left for college. I was always torn between to career paths: art and science. I was accepted to both the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) and to UNC Chapel Hill, but decided to pursue a career in Marine Science at UNC. Of course my sister chose a career in fine arts and she’s doing great!

While at UNC, I had amazing research opportunities but never quite found my niche. I graduated, got a job as a research technician, and moved away from home. After a year, I moved back to NC and started work in a psychology lab. My organizational and independent research skills made me competitive, but it’s all about your connections people! I have been at this job for almost 3 years now, but missed using my artistic skills and my creative mind.

Luckily, I decided to start taking graphic design classes and have been able to use the skills I am learning in my current job. I hope to continue to grow as an artist and as a professional designer. Come share my journey!
